Front and Center | AWR1 William Ranum | HSM-60 AWR1 William Ranum, a native of San Francisco, California, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 2011. Following boot camp, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola to begin his Naval Aircrewman training pipeline. He completed two deployments with Carrier Strike Group EIGHT and earned back-to-back Sailor of the Year honors as an instructor at Helicopter Training Squadron EIGHT. After reaffiliating with the Navy Reserve, he joined Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SIX-ZERO (HSM-60) as Operations Department and SELRES Leading Petty Officer, twice volunteering to mobilize aboard USS Oscar Austin (DDG-79) in support of fleet and joint operations. His exceptional leadership and readiness contributions led to his selection as the fiscal year 2025 Commander, Naval Air Forces Reserve Sailor of the Year, and Commander, Navy Reserve Force Sailor of the Year finalist.
