Someone willing to listen often makes the biggest difference. That kind of human connection is exactly what UPM's Safe Contact network is built around. In 2025, BeU, our network for LGBTIQ+ colleagues and allies, introduced Safe Contacts. They are colleagues across the company who have volunteered and trained to offer a confidential space for these conversations. Employees can turn to a Safe Contact for all kinds of reasons: working through something about their own experience, finding the right way to support someone on their team, or simply wanting to understand a topic better. A Safe Contact listens, helps colleagues think things through, and makes sure they know where to turn next.
