UPWIL Member's Voice | Article 15 - 2025 Decades of progress have been made in South Africa’s journey toward reproductive rights, but the reality is far more complex than the laws on paper. From the fight for safe abortions under the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act to the ongoing struggle for queer-inclusive healthcare, misinformation, underfunded systems, and stigma continue to undermine access to these fundamental rights. What good is a right if it cannot be meaningfully accessed? What good is equality if prejudice still dictates care? This article explores how women and queer South Africans continue to face systemic barriers in exercising their constitutional rights to dignity, equality, and healthcare and why the fight for reproductive justice must continue, louder and broader than ever.
