We've returned the once locally extinct burrowing bettong to the NSW desert, releasing a small population of the kangaroo-like marsupial into a vast experimental landscape within Sturt National Park. Released as part of the Wild Deserts conservation project, which helps native animals learn how to survive alongside predators such as feral cats and foxes, the bettongs have entered a Wild Training Zone with low levels of invasive predators designed to give the species a chance to adapt.
