Open source, put into practice. Day 1 of UN Open Source Week 2026 made one thing clear: when the UN called on open source communities to help tackle practical challenges, they answered by building. At UN Headquarters, New York, the UN Tech Over brought developers, policymakers and open source communities together across three tracks: building tools to help manage the UN Data Commons, improving Wikipedia pages on key digital development themes, and maintaining open source tools the UN system depends on.
