What can nearly half a century of orca sightings tell us about a changing Puget Sound? University of Washington researchers analyzed observations collected from 1978 to 2022 to model long-term trends among killer whales in inland waters. The study found that Bigg’s killer whales are becoming increasingly present. The story for endangered southern resident killer whales is more complex: K and L pods are visiting Puget Sound less frequently, while J pod remains well represented. https://lnkd.in/euRvqEHR 📸: NOAA Fisheries
