Abdiaziz Farah thought heβd already seen the world, but Japan had other plans. π―π΅ Prior to arriving at UW Tacoma, Abdi's childhood was spent in Europe and Africa before his family finally landed in the Pacific Northwest. It was early spring when Abdi touched down in Tokyo for UW Converge β the University of Washington's annual international alumni gathering hosted by the UW Alumni Association β where he'd be the only student in attendance at the conference. Among hundreds of Huskies, from new grads to seasoned professionals, what surprised Abdi most was how little it mattered.Β π He never felt different or out of place. He never felt like "just" a student. Wherever Abdi went, people were open, curious and eager to connect. What he was missing in terms of stationery (business cards) he made up for in connections (with two job offers to prove it). More importantly, Abdi found peace and presence in the Sakura-lined streets of Tokyo, showing us you don't have to spend a semester overseas to study abroad. πΈ #StudyAbroad #TokyoJapan #UofWA #UWAAConverge #TacomaHuskies
