The University of Sydney has marked an important milestone in China with the opening of its newly located Centre in China in Shanghai, strengthening a long-term commitment to collaboration, connection and impact across the region. “This move will advance our engagement with students and alumni, increase our educational exchange opportunities, and amplify our collaboration with industry and university partners, including translating joint research into meaningful outcomes that address shared challenges,” said Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Mark Scott. Jenni Zhao, Executive Director and General Manager of the Centre in China said, “The Centre is a home-away-from home for students before, during and after their study with the University, including creating pathways between education and employment. Our new location in Xuhui District in Shanghai puts us at the heart of industry, top universities, and global partners, enabling deeper collaboration and stronger visibility." During the visit, Vice-Chancellor and President Mark Scott also met with Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China in Beijing to discuss Australia–China education cooperation. Conversations reflected shared priorities, including the role of AI in education, and expanding access to opportunity. The visit was a reminder of the strength of the University’s community in China. From alumni and partners to future students, it was an opportunity to reconnect, share ideas and celebrate the impact of a global network that continues to grow.
