Some of the world’s most inspiring people are forced to leave behind careers, homes and communities through circumstances entirely beyond their control. What they don’t leave behind are their skills, experience and ambition. When Amal arrived in Reading after fleeing conflict in Sudan, she was looking for the opportunity to keep learning and contribute to her new community. Today, she works at the University as part of the International Universities Climate Alliance, amplifying world-class research and action, and helping to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our planet. Her story is a reminder that access to education doesn’t simply change lives. It unlocks talent, creates opportunity and enriches our communities.
