The Simons Observatory studies the composition of the Universe by measuring tiny primordial sound waves that travelled through the hot, early Universe. This video is a teaser showing how that works. The way these waves evolve before the Universe cools enough that sound waves can no longer travel (marked by the end of the video) depends on what the Universe is made of. Visit the Simons Observatory's Royal Society exhibition (stand 3) to learn more, or explore the interactive exhibit at so-on-tour.github.io.
