This month we joined with our partners to celebrate as Harriet Shing officially opened The Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery. Located at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, the ACMD is Australia’s first facility where engineers, researchers and clinicians work side by side within a working hospital. The centre supports innovation in MedTech, biotech and digital health, with the goal of improving healthcare outcomes through research, collaboration and education. “We’re so excited to open ACMD, which builds on the University of Melbourne’s incredible strengths in biomedical engineering, including in neural measurements of the brain, design of implantable devices, sensor technology and tissue engineering”, Professor Mark Cassidy AM, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), said. “By bringing partners, experts, education and clinical settings together, we can deliver greater research breakthroughs, translation and innovation for the benefit of all Australians.” The ACMD is a partnership between Australian Catholic University, the Bionics Institute, RMIT University, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research, Swinburne University of Technology and the University of Melbourne.
