We are incredibly proud to celebrate a major international milestone for sport at the University of East London. Two teams from our East London Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club have been selected to compete at the prestigious 3x3 Wheelchair Masters Vienna 2026 in Austria! Running from 12 to 14 June alongside major FIBA competitions, this world class tournament brings together the globe's finest talent on a massive international stage. William Ashby, UEL High Performance Manager, notes the incredible significance of this milestone: "Being invited to one of the biggest 3x3 events in the world is a great privilege and a testament to the work we've done within wheelchair basketball. It's a fantastic opportunity for our players, staff and students to showcase themselves on the international stage." Among those competing are UEL student Joel Clifton, representing the men's team, and Sophie Patterson, captaining the women's squad. Both embody the hard work, ambition, and excellence we champion here at UEL. The round robin group matches kick off today, leading up to the finals on 14 June. Please join us in wishing our athletes the absolute best of luck as they represent #TeamUEL in Vienna! 🇦🇹🏀 Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eg2Z4wBe #TeamUEL #UELMakingMoves #WheelchairBasketball #HighPerformance #Vienna2026 #SportsExcellence #HigherEducation
