This week, our Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Amanda J. Broderick, took to the stage at Earthfest during London Climate Action Week to discuss one of the defining challenges of our age: how we build a more sustainable, equitable and resilient future. 🌍   Following an important address by the Minister of Nature, Mary Creagh CBE MP, Professor Broderick took to the stage against the backdrop of a national heatwave to highlight the urgent need for action that delivers not only environmental benefits, but also improved health, opportunity and social justice.   At the University of East London, we know that climate change is not a distant threat. From overheating homes and poor air quality to unequal access to green space, its impacts are already being felt by communities across east London and beyond.   That is why UEL is bringing together research, education, industry and community partnerships to drive practical solutions. From our Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS) and TerraDock - Sustainable Business Incubation Centre, to pioneering work with Siemens, the Mayor of London and Newham Council, we are helping to accelerate the transition to a greener future.   Professor Broderick also showcased the work of our Sustainability Research Institute at University of East London, whose researchers are advancing nature-based solutions to improve air quality, strengthen community wellbeing, restore ecosystems, enhance coastal resilience and develop innovative low-carbon materials such as Sugarcrete. Throughout her speech, one message stood out: The climate crisis demands urgency. But urgency without hope risks despair. And hope without action achieves nothing.   A special thanks to Mete Coban MBE, Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy, who spoke right after Professor Broderick and is working with colleagues to bring together organisations across the Royal Docks – UEL being one of them - to turn individual ambitions into collective action.    We are proud to be working with partners across London, the UK and around the world to turn research into action and help create healthier, fairer and more sustainable communities. #TeamUEL #EarthFest #LondonClimateAction
