Addiction is one of the defining societal challenges of our time. It affects individuals, families, communities, workplaces, education and public health. Yet tackling it requires more than any one organisation can achieve alone. That’s why UEL has become the first UK university to establish a strategic partnership with Brock Recovery Group, launching a pioneering transatlantic initiative focused on addiction recovery, prevention, mental health, and workforce wellbeing. Together, we share a long-term vision to develop the proposed Brock Centre for Addiction Research & Care at UEL, creating a platform for research, innovation, education, and international collaboration. The partnership will also support early-stage initiatives including: • Development of an AI-powered tool to help identify relapse and overdose risk earlier. • A new Recovery-Ready Workplaces programme to support employers and people in recovery. • Foundations for a future Brock Fellows Programme to develop the next generation of addiction researchers, clinicians, practitioners and recovery leaders. By bringing together research, healthcare, employers, policymakers, technology, and lived experience, we're helping build more connected, compassionate, and recovery-oriented systems.
