Did you know our gardens can help reduce flooding, support biodiversity, improve air quality AND keep our cities cooler?   Last week, the University of East London hosted a Policy Lab on how to shape policy that helps London’s domestic gardens stay green so that we can receive all of these benefits.   The Policy Lab brought together stakeholders, council authorities from across London and community groups related with gardens.   By bringing research, policy and communities together, UEL is helping turn evidence into action and shape solutions to some of the challenges facing our cities.   Dr Karina Corada, of the Sustainability Research Institute at University of East London, wrote a piece for The Conversation UK that was featured in The Independent, drawing on her latest research to explain how replacing front gardens with driveways is making towns and cities hotter by reducing cooling green spaces and increasing heat-absorbing surfaces.
