The UC Faculty of Science and Technology recently bid a fond farewell to Professor Ana Goulart from Texas A&M University, upon completion of her Fulbright Scholarship placement at UC, hosted through Innovation Central Canberra (ICC) and the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN). Professor Goulart contributed to a range of research, student engagement and industry collaboration activities focused on cyber resilience and energy systems. Key outcomes included a conference paper exploring the cyber resiliency of power system monitoring, an accepted abstract arising from a School of Information Technology and Systems (ITS) Capstone project, which will be further developed into a conference paper, and sponsorship and supervision of an ITS Capstone project focused on visualising the Australian energy market. The student project provided hands-on experience in applied research and digital innovation, reflecting the broader focus of ICC and NIIN on connecting students, researchers and industry around real-world challenges. Professor Goulart’s placement also strengthened collaboration opportunities across the national innovation ecosystem, with engagement spanning UNSW, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), The University of Queensland, RMIT University and CSIRO’s Energy Group at the Pullenvale site. Professor Fiona Dyer, Interim Executive Dean of the Faculty, said that the placement demonstrated the value of international collaboration in strengthening research capability, student engagement and industry connection. “Through ICC and the broader NIIN ecosystem, this work has connected global expertise with practical innovation challenges in areas increasingly important to Australia’s future, including cyber resilience and energy systems,” she says. “We’re proud to have hosted Professor Goulart at UC, and look forward to more such collaborations into the future.” #UniCBR
