A pilot summit bringing Cambridge student voices together ๐Ÿ’ฌ The Cambridge Student Summit, hosted at the Guildhall, brought together students from the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University, Hills Road Sixth Form College and Long Road Sixth Form College for a day shaped by student leadership and participation. From the outset, this was a student-led event, with students designing the agenda, shaping the discussions, and engaging directly with city leaders and decision-makers on the issues that matter most to them. Conversations focused on how Cambridge can grow inclusively, ensuring that opportunities remain accessible to all young people. The programme combined speaker sessions, skills-based workshops, panel discussions and student-led conversations, with students contributing their perspectives and challenging current thinking. Highlights included: โ€“ A thoughtful conversation between Daniel Zeichner MP and Pippa Heylings MP on how to disagree well in public life โ€“ A student-chaired Q&A, led by Cambridge SU President Matthew Copeman, with senior city and civic leaders, including Peter Freeman, Chair of Cambridge Growth Company, Professor Deborah Prentice, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cambridge, Neil Perry, CEO of Romsey Mill and Lynne Miles, Director of Economy and Place at Cambridge City Council โ€“ Interactive workshops on transport, sustainability and homelessness, shaped and driven by student priorities The summit created space for students to step into civic leadership - building confidence to engage with decision-making, strengthening their voice in shaping the city, and demonstrating the value of meaningful student and youth participation in public life. Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, said: "Students are a very important part of Cambridgeโ€™s community. I congratulate those who convened the summit, and it was encouraging to see students from different institutions coming together to discuss the issues that matter to them. If Cambridge is to grow in a way that is inclusive, sustainable and successful, young people must have a genuine voice in shaping the decisions that affect their lives."
