A new, NASA-funded UC Irvine study has found that more than a third of public parks in South L.A. hit or exceeded dangerously high temperatures, while no parks in West L.A. did. Researchers determined that South L.A. parks were built with far more heat-retaining materials, such as artificial turf and concrete, than those in West L.A.
