[English below] Voor het eerst kenden de Universiteit Antwerpen, de Universiteit Gent en de Vrije Universiteit Brussel samen een eredoctoraat toe. Die gezamenlijke erkenning ging naar Francesca Albanese, juriste en VN-Speciaal Rapporteur. Tijdens een ceremonie in de Koningin Elisabethzaal in Antwerpen, in aanwezigheid van meer dan duizend gasten, stond haar werk centraal. Ze werd er geëerd naast Wanda de Kanter, Noura Erakat, Sanna Järvelä en Juliette Legler, stuk voor stuk wetenschappers die met hun onderzoek en engagement bijdragen aan de samenleving. We eren Albanese voor haar inzet voor het internationaal recht, dat ze met kennis van zaken verdedigt en toepast in contexten waar het sterk onder druk staat. This joint honour went to Francesca Albanese, lawyer and UN Special Rapporteur. During a ceremony in the Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp, attended by over a thousand guests, her work took centre stage. She was honoured alongside Wanda de Kanter, Noura Erakat, Sanna Järvelä and Juliette Legler, all of whom are scientists who contribute to society through their research and commitment. We honour Albanese for her dedication to international law, which she defends and applies with expertise in contexts where it is under severe pressure. Through her work, she brings to light what often remains out of sight, and returns legal principles to their core: the protection of people. For Rector Herwig Leirs, her work sums this up aptly: “For us, Albanese symbolises everyone who still respects the international order.” Her commitment requires in-depth expertise, sustained dedication and a willingness to clearly articulate complex realities.
