πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°πŸ€πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Strengthening Agricultural Collaboration Between Pakistan and Canada The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) had the privilege of hosting a distinguished delegation from the Canadian High Commission, Islamabad, to explore opportunities for collaboration in agricultural research, innovation, food security, agritech development, entrepreneurship, and academic partnerships. The delegation included Ms. Harriet Roos, Head of Cooperation; Mr. Nikita Eriksen-Hamel, Deputy Director Food Security & Nutrition/Agriculture Specialist; and Ms. Farida Rehmat Gilani, Senior Development Officer. During their visit, the delegation met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, Deans, Directors, and senior faculty members to discuss avenues for mutual cooperation in agriculture, seed systems, startup ecosystems, soil fertility, animal and veterinary sciences, research, and innovation. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Harriet Roos highlighted Canada's interest in aligning international cooperation initiatives with Pakistan's development priorities, noting that agriculture and agri-food systems present strong opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration. Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali showcased UAF’s contributions in agricultural research, climate-smart farming, technology transfer, entrepreneurship development, and industry-academia linkages. He emphasized that enhanced collaboration with Canadian institutions and development partners would strengthen Pakistan’s agricultural resilience and create new opportunities in key sectors including seed technology, animal feed, fertilizers, vaccines, and agricultural machinery. He also stressed the importance of reviving joint degree programs and expanding academic partnerships between UAF and Canadian institutions. Mr. Nikita Eriksen-Hamel highlighted emerging Canadian agri-food innovation networks and expressed interest in exploring collaborative opportunities that can benefit both countries. A comprehensive roundtable discussion was held with representatives from the Faculties of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering & Technology, Animal Husbandry, and innovation and commercialization units. The delegation also visited the UAF Exhibition Center, where they were introduced to innovative products, research outcomes, startup initiatives, and commercialization efforts led by students, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
