UAlbany history PhD student Aidan McLaren is spending his summer studying about how early greenhouses reflected the ambitions of wealthy Europeans during the colonial era. By examining how unfamiliar plants, including pineapples, were cultivated in controlled environments, his research sheds light on the connections between science, wealth and power in the 17th and 18th centuries.
