Dr Johanna Hartke started as a TCSMT Collegium Researcher in 2025. Applying for the Turku Collegium of Science, Medicine and Technology was a logical next step for Hartke, who was just about to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at the Finnish Centre for Astronomy with ESO (FINCA) at the University of Turku. Recently, Hartke was able to visit Chile and Paranal Observatory on a research visit, where she worked together with her colleague on data of the Sculptor galaxy as well a project seeking to reconstruct the sharpness of the images produced by the MUSE integral-field spectrograph in a particular mode. Another added bonus of Hartke’s trip was visiting the Extremely Large Telescope – the largest telescope in the world. While the visit to Chile was a highlight for Hartke, she was happy to return to Finland, which has been her home for almost four years. "This kind of stability has helped me get stuff done, and my productivity in terms of paper output has definitely increased since joining TCSMT.” 👉 The next application period for the Turku Collegium for Science, Medicine and Technology will open on 1 November 2026 and close on 15 January 2027.
