Drought, desertification and land degradation are growing global challenges, threatening lives and livelihoods around the world. Every second, the equivalent of four football fields of healthy land is degraded — adding up to 100 million hectares each year. At the same time, drought is among the most devastating natural disasters and could affect three-quarters of the world's population by 2050. But it's not too late to act. Wednesday's World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought highlights the urgent need for ambitious, meaningful climate action to protect and restore land for present and future generations.
