🩺🤝 Strengthening our partnership with local care homes Last week, we welcomed representatives from local community care homes to the School of Medicine & Dentistry, for an afternoon of collaboration ahead of this year’s Year 1 MBBS and MPAS care home placements. Developed by Dr Helen Rainford and Holly Henderson, the initiative is now a core part of the Year 1 curriculum, with 2025 marking the first time our full cohort will undertake these placements. Guests met our Dean, Professor Alison Carr, toured our Skills Lab and Anatomy Room, and joined university colleagues for conversations that generated new ideas to enhance the student placement experience. We’re proud to be the first university medical school to embed care home placements for medical students, a programme now recognised through nominations for both the 2026 Times Higher Education and the Educate North Awards.
