It is time to change the story of Commerzbank AG and build a better bank for Germany. To date, this bank’s history is one of underperformance. Growth has been weak, investment in transformation limited, and the core German franchise has been neglected. Recent results may have been propped up by temporary tailwinds and M&A speculation, but they have not been supported by transformative change. The current Momentum plan simply offers more of the same. This is not good enough. So today, as its largest shareholder, we propose a new approach. An approach that would change the story and begin a new chapter for Commerzbank. #CommerzbankUnlocked is an industrial transformation centred on a different vision for Commerzbank.  It is about refocusing on the core markets of Germany and Poland and cutting back on risky non-core international activities. It’s about getting this bank back to what it does best and building a better bank for Germany – one that could be ultimately part of the bank for Europe.   We know this model works because we’ve already delivered on it across UniCredit’s federated network, including at HypoVereinsbank - UniCredit - Deutschland in Germany.
