🌍 PhD Summer School | Space Applications for Global Sustainable Development 📍 Malmö, Sweden | June 2026 ⏰ Application deadline: 24 April (closing very soon!) The PhD Summer School “Space Applications for Global Sustainable Development” application is open! The school offer a blended, interdisciplinary programme that explores how space-based technologies, including satellite imagery, remote sensing, GIS, and spatial analysis, can be applied to global and local sustainability challenges. It offers hands-on training in spatial analysis and GIS, enabling PhD candidates to independently analyse sustainability issues across environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Participants will work with open-access data, cutting-edge software, and leading researchers from academia and international organisations such as the UN and the European Space Agency - ESA. 📘 Programme format Online preparation: 25 May – 17 June 2026 (including two introductory GIS sessions) On-site intensive week: 7–12 June 2026 in Malmö Lectures, seminars, labs, excursions, and applied case studies Topics include rising sea levels, deforestation, urban green spaces, nighttime lights as a proxy for human development, and a full-day lab on 3D photogrammetry and drone-based urban modelling The programme is coordinated by Malmö University, The number of participants is limited to 25.
