Women now represent the majority of higher education enrolment across much of the world. Yet this progress is not reflected equally in academic leadership. According to UNESCO's Higher Education Global Trends Report, women hold only around one quarter of senior leadership positions in academia and remain underrepresented at doctoral level. Advancing gender equality in higher education requires more than equal access to learning.
