Artificial intelligence is reshaping economies, societies and public institutions. Ensuring that this transformation is governed for the benefit of all requires the support of global cooperation. At the United Nations level, UNESCO, together with International Telecommunication Union, is coordinating the joint secretariat of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance — alongside the Executive Office of the Secretary-General and the United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies — to support an inclusive and multistakeholder process. As AI continues to evolve, UNESCO is leading global efforts to ensure its benefits are accessible to all, while its risks are addressed collectively — through its work on AI ethics, readiness assessments, capacity-building for judges and public servants, and education frameworks. In this context, the Co-Chairs of the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance — Ambassador Egriselda López of El Salvador and Ambassador Rein Tammsaar of Estonia, Permanent Mission of Estonia to the United Nations — visited UNESCO Headquarters as preparations advance for the first Global Dialogue, to be held in July 2026 in Geneva. Established by the United Nations General Assembly under the Global Digital Compact, this Dialogue will bring together governments, academia, civil society and the private sector to shape the future of AI governance. https://lnkd.in/eQq5n84H
