Indigenous knowledge is disappearing. And with it, solutions we can't afford to lose. Indigenous knowledge systems, languages and practices hold answers to today's greatest global challenges. Yet too often, Indigenous Peoples remain marginalised in decision-making and misrepresented in public narratives. UNESCO is changing that. We are updating our Policy on Engaging with Indigenous Peoples — one of the leading frameworks within the UN system — to strengthen dialogue, co-creation and accountability. This means ensuring Indigenous Peoples' voices and rights are fully integrated across UNESCO’s work in education, culture, sciences and communication. As world leaders gather this week for the 25th Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to advancing meaningful engagement with Indigenous Peoples.
