#ArtificialIntelligence is already entering courtrooms. But most judges have little formal training or clear guidance. That is why UNESCO has released “AI Essentials for Judges”, a new policy brief that explains the fundamentals of #AI, where it is already used in justice systems, and how courts can harness its benefits without undermining judicial independence, due process or fundamental rights. 🔵 What the brief covers: ➡️ An accessible introduction to key AI concepts for non-technical audiences ➡️ Concrete examples of how AI is currently used in courts and tribunals ➡️ Key risks to consider, including opacity, bias, over-reliance and vendor lock-in ➡️ Safeguards grounded in international human rights standards and the rule of law ➡️ Practical questions judges can ask when AI tools are introduced into judicial work Through its AI and the Rule of Law initiative, UNESCO works with justice systems to harness the benefits of artificial intelligence while ensuring its use remains transparent, accountable and aligned with human rights and the rule of law.
