SCHOHARIE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (NY) recently transformed an unused field behind one of its schools into a solar array expected to power the district for the next 20 years. By lowering electricity costs, the district can redirect more resources toward students while reducing exposure to future energy price volatility. In a recent Spectrum Local News article, officials from the New York State School Boards Association noted that this project reflects a growing trend across New York: school districts are finding innovative ways to use underutilized land for clean energy projects that reduce costs, strengthen school operations, and create new learning opportunities. Notably, many of these efforts have been driven by student advocates who are helping lead the way. Kudos to the students and school district leaders for demonstrating what's possible, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and the New York State School Boards Association for supporting districts like Schoharie and lowering barriers so more districts can follow their example. https://lnkd.in/gbfhfHHw
