Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, we’re proud to highlight Dr. Lauren Fischbacher, whose work is helping shape more inclusive, dignity-affirming classrooms. As an Assistant Professor and Program Chair at UMass Global, she focuses her research on autistic students and on preparing educators to lead with inclusion. From communication supports like AAC to grant-funded work with the Organization for Autism Research, her work centers on belonging, autonomy, and student success. Her approach is grounded in a powerful mindset: assume competence and see the whole person. It’s a perspective that’s helping future educators move beyond awareness and into meaningful action. World Autism Awareness Day is an important reminder that awareness is just the starting point. True impact comes from building environments where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. 👉 Join us in recognizing educators and advocates who are creating more inclusive learning spaces every day. #AutismAwareness #InclusiveEducation #SpecialEducation #CaliforniaTeachers
