In the AeroSystems Dynamics Laboratory, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Lab Director Ahmed Aboelezz and his students recently captured their first flow visualization results from a wind tunnel designed and constructed entirely in-house. The illuminated wake behind the airfoil is an early step toward advanced aerodynamic testing and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), techniques used to better understand how air moves around aircraft, drones, and next-generation aerospace systems. Research like this is helping expand Maine's growing role in aerospace innovation while providing students with hands-on experience designing, building, and operating the same experimental systems used throughout the industry. From concept to construction to data collection, this is what aerospace leadership looks like at UMaine. #Aerospace #Engineering #Research #UMaine #Innovation #StudentResearch UMaine Research UMaine Space
