The role of the commerce platform is changing. Most ecommerce platforms were designed around how people shop: navigation, search, filters, and optimised user journeys. But that model is starting to shift. Increasingly, decisions are not being made through browsing, but through interpretation. AI systems don’t navigate storefronts in the same way humans do. They rely on structured data, context, and the ability to understand what a product is, when it’s relevant, and how to act on it. At Ultra Commerce, we’re seeing this move from systems designed to present products, to systems designed to be understood and executed on. It’s less about experience layers, and more about data, orchestration, and decisioning. It’s still early, but the direction is becoming clear: and the implications for how commerce is built are significant.
