The UK-India partnership is supporting a more secure, stable and resilient maritime environment. King’s College London and India’s National Maritime Foundation have signed an agreement to establish the Regional Maritime Security Centre for Excellence (RMSCE) in New Delhi, strengthening collaboration on maritime security and strategic research. The Centre will draw on the best of British and Indian expertise to foster a community of practice and a stronger framework for maritime governance and cooperation, delivering capability-building, conducting research, and developing advanced technologies. This pioneering Centre will enhance our understanding of current and future challenges to maritime security, governance and resilience across the Indian Ocean region – focusing on under-explored yet significant security threats like illicit trafficking, irregular migration, and fisheries crimes. Tackling these challenges is in our shared interest. The announcement was made earlier this month alongside Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, as part of the Maritime Security pillar of the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.
