From drilling site back to agricultural land Three former exploration wells. Approximately 1,150 metres deep. One objective: long-term safe abandonment and preparation for the future recultivation of the surface area. UGS GmbH acted as general contractor for the planning and execution of the well abandonment works. The project included the permanent and safe plugging of three former exploration wells. Among other equipment, the T53 workover rig was deployed. In addition, UGS provided all required services for execution from a single source. Project preparation was carried out by the UGS Engineering team. This included subsurface preliminary planning, execution planning and approval planning, as well as the planning of the necessary upgrade measures for well sites and access roads. During execution, our engineers supported the work through on-site supervision and technical back-office support. In close cooperation with our Drilling Service team, this ensured a fully coordinated project execution. From a technical perspective, the wells were worked over, their condition was recorded by measurement, and bridge plugs were set in the area of the respective casing shoes. The wells were then completely filled with cement up to surface level. All three wells were abandoned within the planned time and cost framework. This created the basis for the complete dismantling of the drilling sites. Once the dismantling measures have been completed, the areas can be returned to agricultural use.
