Yesterday, alongside coauthors Sallyann O’Dwyer and Nicola Walsh I had the honor of presenting our final year thesis on ‘Addressing the relationship between IBS, gut microbiota and mental health: Insights into possible intervention strategies’. Our thesis explored the effects of gut microbiome disbiosis on these conditions in animal models and human cohorts while providing possible therapeutic avenues with dietary changes, prebiotic and probiotic supplementation. However, we did also highlight the need for further research in this area as science and technology advances. Our presentation was honored with 1st place recognition from Kerry. Thank you to Edward Costello and Cal Flynn from Kerry Group for presenting us with this award. Thank you to our supervisor, Dr. Fabiana Andréa Hoffmann Sardá, for her invaluable guidance and support throughout our final year. I would also like to thank and congratulate my dedicated teammates and friends, Nicola and Sallyann, as without their tireless commitment to excellence in our thesis this award would not have been possible.
