BESIGYE REFUSES NEW LAWYERS! "We Want Martha Karua & Lukwago" Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale have told the High Court they will not abandon their preferred legal team, insisting that being forced to accept alternative lawyers would violate their constitutional right to a fair trial. In a letter from Luzira Prison, the two accuse the State of dismantling their legal team through the arrest of Erias Lukwago and the deportation of Kenyan Senior Counsel Martha Karua. They argue that without their chosen lawyers, they cannot adequately prepare for their defence. The pair are also challenging the court's bail timetable, questioning the handling of their human rights enforcement application, and asking the court to first resolve issues surrounding their legal representation before proceeding with the bail hearing or the main trial.
