This week, UCL Engineering will host the annual Joel Lecture, celebrating the extraordinary career of Professor David Hawkes - Emeritus Professor at UCL and the namesake of our research institute. Prof Hawkes's lecture, "From Rock and Roll to Sailing in the Rain: Via Fifty Years of Medical Imaging and Surgical Sciences", traces a remarkable journey - from the earliest days of whole-body CT scanning to augmented reality in surgery, image-guided interventions, and the dawn of AI in medical imaging. A career spanning 50 years, 500+ peer-reviewed publications, and the founding of both CMIC and WEISS at UCL.
