👏 Huge congratulations to Tim Rocktäschel and the entire Recursive team on the remarkable funding announcement. Raising $650M with backing from GV (Google Ventures) and NVIDIA, reportedly at a $4.65B valuation, is an extraordinary milestone. Tim is Professor of AI at UCL Computer Science and PI of the DARK Lab, alongside his roles as Fellow of ELLIS and his previous leadership positions at Google DeepMind, where he served as Director, Principal Scientist, and Open-Endedness Team Lead. 🎯 His work has consistently pushed forward the frontier of AI research across reinforcement learning, reasoning, open-endedness, and self-improving systems. Tim said: "I am really excited to start Recursive with exceptional co-founders and one of the two offices based in London's Knowledge Quarter, building on strong links to UCL and the UK's broader AI ecosystem. At Recursive, we are building self-improving AI systems that can automate the scientific method and much of the frontier AI development pipeline, from evaluating models to selecting data and designing new experiments. This matters now because progress in AI is increasingly limited by the speed at which humans can iterate on models, datasets and research directions. By focusing on AI that can safely improve itself based on experience, we hope to build systems that are more robust, efficient and useful in real-world settings." ⭐ A hugely exciting moment for Tim, the Recursive team, and the broader UCL Computer Science community. Congratulations again to everyone involved. UCL Innovation & Enterprise | UCL Centre for AI | UCL Pro-Provost London
