On Tuesday 24th March, ACMN hosted our ‘Getting into Academia’ Panel. This was an amazing opportunity for Black medical students to learn more about medical research and the opportunities available to them beyond practicing medicine! We were joined by three exceptional doctors all with extensive research experience in various areas such as sexual health, neuroscience and chronic illnesses. Their valuable insights are what made the event so worthwhile, so we would like to say a huge thank you to Dr Annabel Sowemimo MBBS, MSc, MCoSRH, DipGUM, DTMH, Veline L'Esperance and Abidemi Otaiku for sharing your journeys! A key takeaway from the event was the importance of increasing research into health issues predominantly affecting Black communities- an often overlooked area. In particular, we heard about Black Health Legacy UK, an organisation committed to increasing the involvement of Black participants in research.
