Thanks very much to Thomas Mc Hugh from Orsted Ireland for speaking to our Sustainability for Business Success programme last week. This Sustainability Academy programme focuses how sustainability can be stitched into business strategy, innovation, sales, and growth. Ørsted have undergone a remarkable transformation from a fossil-fuel-intensive utility into a global green energy leader by divesting oil/gas assets and pivoting to offshore wind. Thomas talked about the inflection point for Ørsted when green electrons are matched by commercial opportunity. For example wind energy more than 50% cheaper, and solar 40% cheaper, than lowest cost fossil fuel alternative. Onshore wind almost 90% of new added capacity in Ireland. The company has 10.2 GW installed offshore with another 8.1 GW under development. A great success story for Irish and EU wind energy.
