The Berkeley Endowment Management Company (BEMCO) has named Tarek Saghir as its new President and Chief Investment Officer, responsible for overseeing endowed funds of the UC Berkeley Foundation (UCBF). Saghir has served as the Chief Investment Officer at Brandeis University since 2022, and assumes leadership of BEMCO on August 3. “Tarek combines intellectual horsepower, demonstrated investment skill, an empathetic approach to team leadership, and a deep belief in Berkeley’s mission,” said Cyrus Hadidi, Chair of BEMCO’s Board of Directors and a UCBF trustee. “We are excited for the next era of BEMCO under Tarek’s leadership.” BEMCO was established in 2009 and provides professional stewardship of endowment gifts given to UCBF in support of Berkeley's mission of teaching, research, and public service. “There is so much opportunity open to BEMCO and Berkeley, and I look forward to seizing it," said Saghir.
