“Nice folks finish last,” is an old quote that could apply to many workplaces, as it seems like people who are manipulative, callous, selfish, or self-aggrandizing regularly get hired, and even promoted, within organizations. So why is that? Past research has shown it’s because people with dark personality traits can often turn on the charm and charisma, but a new UBC Sauder study shows that those hires could be the result of self-serving leaders.
