Incoming Academic Foundation Doctor | Final Year Medical Student

I'm excited to be undertaking my medical elective across Nepal and California next month. 🌎 I'm hugely grateful to JPMorganChase and The Sutton Trust for supporting this elective through a £5,000 Opportunity Bursary. Their support has made this international experience possible and will allow me to gain perspectives that will shape my future career in medicine. I'm looking forward to learning from incredible teams and bringing these experiences back to my training in the UK. I'll begin at the Nepal Burns Centre in Kathmandu, where I'll be learning about burn care and reconstructive surgery in a resource-limited setting, while exploring how health systems can better support patients who face barriers to accessing specialist care. Following this, I'll travel to Los Angles to gain experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery within the US healthcare system. Experiencing these two settings side-by-side will provide a unique opportunity to reflect on how different health systems approach surgical care, innovation and health equity.
