A whistleblower at Red River Army Depot reported Clean Air Act violations to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel — untrained contractors intentionally released HFC-134a, a flammable, pressurized air conditioning refrigerant. Recovery equipment was improperly maintained and uncertified, required scales to prevent tank overfilling were absent, and personnel lacked the necessary training and certification. The Army investigated and took action. The whistleblower noted the changes made will improve safety and equipment quality. A good example of whistleblowing working exactly as intended — concerns raised, investigated, and resolved. https://lnkd.in/ei9xbwPa
