Yesterday Debora Meijer, one of our top bioinformaticians who set up a procedure to interpret DNA and mRNA data derived from Circulating Tumor Cells, became Dr Debora Meier. She succesfully defended her PhD thesis at the University of Leiden, based on five years of work studying the DNA, mRNA and proteome of sarcomas. PhD defenses at Dutch universities have retained their traditions, and therefore for many friends of family members it is a special experience to attend a defense in the more-than-500-year old Academy Building of Leiden University, with professors in black robes asking critical questions about the thesis. Debora defended her thesis with great success. As a team, we are extremely proud of her!
