TY BRAND CONTENT – Domaine Alexandre Bonnet There are a number of advantages to the traditional practice of working the soil between the vines using horse-drawn tools, despite being more labour intensive and involving higher costs to the grower. A horse, much lighter than a tractor equivalent, compresses the soil far less as it passes through the vines than the rolling tires – allowing the soil to continue to breathe. With greater control, horses can move through tighter spaces between vines and cause less risk of damage. On top of this, horses cause no pollution in the vineyard, and any 'waste products' contribute towards fertilising the soils.
