The Railway Board's warning about heavy melting scrap (HMS) sales is a stark reminder of our fragile supply chain in rail production. Since 2007, zones have been instructed to reserve scrap for internal use, yet non-compliance persists. This oversight could jeopardize the 2026-27 production goals critical for the Rail Wheel Factory in Karnataka and the Rail Wheel Plant in Bihar. Eastern Railway's commitment is to deliver 19,000 MT, while South Central and Northern Railways have targets of 16,100 MT and 15,100 MT, respectively. Let’s be clear: failure to meet these metrics compromises not just production efficiency but also our broader manufacturing strategy.
