MEMORIES OF ANOTHER DUBLIN A huge thanks to Betty Ashe, my guest on this week’s Vanishing Ireland podcast. When she was born eight decades ago, inner city Dublin was not very different to that depicted in ‘Strumpet City’, with immense poverty in the Georgian tenements. That streetscape has changed dramatically over the course of her lifetime. Now often referred to as Silicon Docks or Google-Land, the Dublin docklands has an entirely new identity as the base of teck giants like Google, Facebook and Twitter. Betty speaks about her childhood in the docks, her early days as a pioneering activist in the evolving docklands … and about the Skirt Wars between the Doreens and the Brendellas : ) You'll find the podcast by searching for "Vanishing Ireland" on Spotify, Google or wherever you get your podcasts. Please rate the podcast series if you can, as it will help us to secure a second season. Photo: Leon Farrell With thanks to SUPERVALU
